Would YOU like to join our Committee?

Some of our long standing Committee members are retiring. We would like to thank them for their years of great service to all toy library members.

Being on the committee is a great way to meet other local parents and contribute to the running of our fantastic volunteer driven organisation. The toy library is such a vital service in our community but without an active committee, it will be forced to close.

The Committee holds monthly meetings, alternating between the Laverton and Newport branches, and depending on the role you’re interested in you can give as little or as much time as you can.

We all have young children and babies to care for and have many other commitments to time manage, yet we love being part of the toy library committee and giving back to our community.

We are looking for people to take on the following roles:

  • Grants Coordinator

  • Events Coordinator

  • Toy Coordinator

If you have interest in any of the positions please contact Lisa Marty (President) via hobsonsbaytoylibrary@gmail.com

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Meet Your Coordinators: Aztia Tamami Adyas, Newport Coordinator

Aztia is a member of our Newport team, having been a Coordinator since 2015.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am from Indonesia, but I moved to to Melbourne 5 years ago. As well as my work with the toy library, I'm a part time educator in a German-Australian childcare centre.  I'm married and we are hoping to start our own family. I feel so lucky that I came to the inner west of Melbourne because it has been so easy to settle in. I have met some beautiful people and felt part of the community right from the start.

What have you loved the most about being a part of the toy library community?

I love working around children and being involved in children’s development . Being part of the toy library team means I get to help to provide a service that encourages exploration, curiosity, play and creativity for children, and I love that it is a service that everyone in the community has access to. I am also passionate about caring for the environment, and love that toy libraries contribute to eliminating waste and saving space in the family home. One of the best parts of my role is seeing the expression of the children when they pick up a new toy from the toy library!

Can you tell us one fun fact about yourself?

I've been playing basketball for more than 17 years and I play for a local ladies’ team.

Meet Your Coordinators: Cinzia Bulegato, Newport Coordinator

Picture1.png

Cinzia is the newest member of our team, having just joined our Newport branch as our Thursday Coordinator.

Your family have been members of the toy library since the beginning of the year. What have you loved the most about being a toy library member?

We joined the toy library as soon as we moved to the area and we felt immediately welcomed. We love the warm and informal atmosphere; it’s a great place to meet new people and get involved with the community. Our kids love being able to choose from such a wide range of toys and I am amazed to see how they are developing their decision-making skills by carefully selecting the toys they borrow. They are also learning to be responsible for the items they borrow by taking care of them and making sure the toys are clean before returning to the toy library.

What are you looking forward to about your new role?

As a ‘people person’, I am thrilled to get to meet all the Newport members and their kids. I am looking forward to providing a friendly environment where members feel they are appreciated as part of the community. I hope to see more people get involved in the toy library through volunteering, joining the Committee, fundraising and being part of our toy library community.

What does your Coordinator role involve?

I am responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the Newport branch. Together with the other Coordinators, the Committee of Management and members, I am looking forward to working hard to make our toy library a friendly and efficient service for families in our local neighbourhood.

Any tips for new members?

I would definitely encourage families to get involved and join the toy library! Exposing children to a broad range of toys contributes to their development and learning and can increase a parent’s understanding of the importance of play in children. Since I became a parent, I have met many other parents experiencing isolation and who struggle to make new friends. A toy library is a friendly place to network with other parents who are at a similar stage in their lives.
