History

The Hobsons Bay Toy Library was one of the first toy libraries in Australia, beginning as Williamstown Educational Toy Library in 1976, becoming Newport Toy Library in 1988, and then Hobsons Bay Toy Library in 1995. Until then, membership and finances had been up and down, in spite of the bets efforts of the volunteers who ran it. Since 1995 it has thrived, with more Council funding, two paid Co-ordinators, and the ultimate mark of success - a new branch opening at Laverton in 2002.
